This mural was created in 2019 as part of a general call to artists to paint the alley in honor of Square Cat Vinyl’s Backalley Ballyhoo, an annual street music event that in 2019 had a psychedelic-space theme. It is a whimsical look at music in space, with alien characters and giant, oddly-colored vegetation.

Mike Meares received his B.F.A. in studio art from Southern Illinois University and lived in the San Francisco Bay Area for 14 years before moving to Indianapolis with his family in the summer of 2019. Primarily a pastel artist, his artwork focuses on the exploration of the imagination with themes rooted in the emotions and experiences of life.
