  • Pogue's Run / Holy Cross Neighborhood Mural
Pogue's Run / Holy Cross Neighborhood Mural
    Category: Mural
This mural designed by artist Brent Aldrich and painted by Lilly employees in 2013 depicts Pogue’s Run waterway throughout the decades. The painting depicts George Pogue, an early settler for whom the stream was named, and the transformation of the Holy Cross neighborhood through time. Workers from Eli Lilly transformed this area alongside Pogue’s Run creek into a destination for walkers, joggers, and bicyclists, ripping out invasive plants; painting a large, colorful mural; building uniquely artistic community benches; giving a face-lift to a rundown storage building; and laying the foundation for a future paved trail. Reconnecting to Our Waterways (ROW) is a collective impact initiative that has worked purposefully since 2012 to change the quality of life and ecology along Indianapolis waterways and surrounding neighborhoods. ROW has been involved in many projects along Pogue’s Run including this one. Brent Aldrich has worked in the arts, education, and community development in Indianapolis for the last decade, with an emphasis on projects that are place-based and relational. A practicing artist, Aldrich holds an MFA from the Herron School of Art and Design.

In June 2020, Rad Brewing had a Tag Days event at their taproom where a group of artists worked collaboratively on a 36 x 24 ft. mural on a side of the building as well as a few other smaller murals. The artists divided up the space and a couple of open spots on the taproom wall in order to add some art and support local art education. While the mural was being painted, the taproom also raised money from beer sales to go toward youth art programs in the Holy Cross Neighborhood. Blend Creative Minds is a team of central Indiana artists who collaboratively create murals and hand-lettered signs based in the graffiti aesthetic, The collective’s current members are Rafael Caro, Erica Parker, Rafiki, Vivrant Thaang, Stuffy, LoLo, and Mon Kane. Bezol One is an Indianapolis-based muralist and graphic designer inspired by futuristic technologies and exotic creatures.
