Brownsburg Bokeh is a layered composite of important and meaningful Brownsburg landmarks. The Arbuckle, Brownsburg High School, the old Carnegie library, the new library, Blast Off playground at Williams Park, and Lucas Oil Raceway are all given space. The circle motif that overlays the image represents the cyclical nature of the relationship between the community and its residents, and underscores how they make one another stronger. The term “Bokeh” refers to the photography effect that causes individual lights to appear as blurry circles, and the mural layers these types of circles on top of the image elements.
Lisa Sears is a lifelong Hoosier resident. She graduated from Herron School of Art and Design in 2011 with a B.F.A in Drawing, a B.A. in Art Education, and a minor in Art History. By day Sears teaches art at Greenfield-Central High School, paints every evening in her Southport studio, and spends weekends and breaks with her parents, who live in Brownsburg. Her work consists of acrylic paintings on canvas based on layered digital collages, reveling in the transformative process that occurs as a piece develops. She meticulously documents the layering process for her pieces on her website so others can enjoy it as well.
