Artist Sofiya Inger facilitated this installation on the campus of the Indiana School for the Blind and Visually Impaired (ISBVI). The tree is tactile art, created to be especially suitable for the low-vision students. Artist Sofiya Inger facilitated this installation on the campus of the Indiana School for the Blind and Visually Impaired (ISBVI). The tree is tactile art, created to be especially suitable for the low-vision students. It was created with the participation of all students at ISBVI, and with help from Butler University botany students. All materials were donated by the public, and include broken pottery, glass, mirrors, and found objects. Every participant made a reverse mosaic leaf of these materials: all the leaves were then attached to the big tree form, which was built by Inger. The completed installation is placed close to the greenhouse on campus, one of its historic buildings.
Sofiya Inger was born in Russia and has been living in the Indianapolis area since 1994. She works with layers, both of materials and of imagery, to create an emotional dialogue between people and with nature.
