When Indiana Was Young

IndyBaroque Music, Inc., and Ensemble Voltaire celebrate Indiana’s bicentennial with a program combining music and spoken commentary. What was happening in New France, later known as the Indiana Territory, when the great composers of the Baroque were active in Europe? European chamber music and Hoosier history mix it up on “When Indiana Was Yong.” Interwoven with works by J.S. Bach, Rameau, and LeClair are 18th-century American tavern songs; music by Francesco Maria Veracini and James Oswald based on Scottish songs well known to American settlers; and the “Huron Indiana Carol” by Fr. Jean de Brebeuf. IndyBaroque Music, Inc. wishes Indiana a happy 200th birthday while, at the same time, while commemorating the opening of Ensemble Voltaire’s 29th continuous year of concerts and educational outreach.
