Freelancers Union Seeks Artists for Black Freelancers Web Directory

At the dawn of the gig economy, there were no organizations or available models to support the large, disconnected workforce of freelancers, independent contractors, and gig workers. Freelancers Union was founded to organize and unite individuals into a single voice to further the protections, benefits, and resources of all freelancers. Throughout our years of progressive policy advocacy towards rights and representation, however, there was a blindspot in which Black freelancers and their interests lived and yearned for a voice.

Today, more than ever, Freelancers Union recognizes that communities across the country are hurting. People are outraged, sad, and confused. But they have also accepted the responsibility of their power and are choosing to act in order to bring about meaningful change. Black communities have long felt the brunt of systemic racism, which has only maintained the divide in the decades succeeding the civil rights movement. Freelancers Union wants to do their part to help bridge that divide.

To boost the visibility of Black freelancers and call attention to their work, this Freelancers Web Directory serves as a compiled list that will highlight Black freelancers within the community, leveraging the reach and influence to create opportunities where decades of oppression and marginalization have left less.
