Artist sought to paint one of state’s largest murals in Putnam County, IN
The Putnam County Mural Project will commission a city gateway mural on four grain silos on the southside of Greencastle; artist application deadline is June 28. PCMP is seeking applications from local, national and international artists to paint one of Indiana’s largest murals—a canvas of up to 8,000-square-feet.
Mural art has the ability to transform communities by celebrating heritage, creating civic pride, and enriching lives through participatory art-making. This is best accomplished when murals are used to activate spaces in areas that are otherwise overlooked.
The project is looking for a visual artist to produce one of Indiana’s largest mural sites during the month of September 2019. The project’s “canvases” are the four south-facing silos of S&W Feed Center, located at the intersection of Veterans Highway and US 231 in the southern corridor of Greencastle, Indiana.
The vision for this mural is to beautify and activate this area of the community. The site location also happens to be the future site of a People Pathways trail-link that will provide residents with a perfect viewing area of the artwork from across the road.
All professional artists and designers, 18 and over, are invited to submit qualifications. Putnam County Convention and Visitors Bureau employees, board members, Putnam County Mural Project committee members are not eligible to apply.
They are looking for qualified artists who have experience with medium to large-scale mural projects. Additionally, the ability to engage community in an inclusive and friendly manner is a must.
Applicants must demonstrate the following qualifications:
Artist Pay: $22,500*
*All expenses related to travel, lodging, materials & supplies will be covered by the Putnam County Mural Project. Artist will be responsible for sending project committee paint and supply orders by specific deadlines as outlined by final contract.
