RUNNING BRAVELY THROUGH LIFE WITH BILLY MILLS (OGLALA LAKOTA)

“This program is part of the 2014 Spirit & Place Festival on JOURNEY.” Billy Mills’ life has been an incredible journey: one that started on the Pine Ridge Indian Reservation in South Dakota in 1938. That journey has taken him from the reservation to the medal platform at the 1964 Tokyo Olympics and beyond. At 1 p.m., Saturday, Nov. 8, 2014, the Eiteljorg Museum will present Running Bravely Through Life – a screening of the film, Running Brave. This film chronicles Mills’ early life and journey to the Olympic Games. Following the film, Billy and Pat Mills will host an inspirational Q&A session about discovering your passion and fulfilling your dreams. Mills will also sign his book, Wokini: A Lakota Journey to Happiness and Self-Understanding, following the program. #SPIndy Special Presentation for School Groups: Running Bravely Through Life with Billy Mills (Oglala Lakota) Friday, November 7 10–11 a.m. Billy Mills won the gold medal in the 10,000 meter event in the 1964 Tokyo Olympics. As a boy, Billy felt broken by the racism that surrounded him. He looked inside himself and to his Native American values to overcome obstacles, discover his passion and reach for his dreams. This is the message and challenge he will give to students during his presentation at the Eiteljorg Museum on Friday, November 7. Space for this program is extremely limited.
