Abraham Lincoln spent the formative years of his youth in Spencer County, starting in 1816. Referring to the rolling hills and shady forest of what is now Lincoln State Park, the Great Emancipator reminisces, “Here I grew up.” Memorials in the county include the Lincoln cabin site and the grave of Abraham Lincoln’s mother, Nancy.
