Natalie Solmer grew up in South Bend, Indiana, and attended Clemson University in South Carolina, where she studied horticulture and poetry. She worked as a landscaper, nursery manager and florist for many years until earning her MFA in poetry at Butler University. She is currently an Assistant Professor of English at Ivy Tech Community College. Natalie’s work often employs the floral and horticultural imagery which she studied and worked with for many years; however, she also addresses generational trauma, ancestry and assimilation (her grandparents were immigrants from Eastern Europe), race (her sons are black/biracial), class, relationship and the questions of fate and fortune which plague us all.
Natalie Solmer earned a BS in horticulture, with a minor in poetry, from Clemson University in 2002, cum laude. She received an MFA in poetry from Butler University in 2012 with a 4.0 GPA.
