I create all of my work from an overwhelming desire to communicate that which transcends explanation. I wish to bring the raw forces of creation & beauty to the surface as a means to translate experiences & visions into sharable mediums. It is my belief that art has the ability to transform by resonating the fundamental energies deep within our beings. I believe art has the ability to unlock the potentials of our highest selves.

Melissa cain

Visual Arts: Mixed Media, Painting, Visual Arts Instructor

Melissa Cain is an artist living in Avon, Indiana. She studied Graphic Design at International Business College in Indianapolis. After working in Graphic Design for 12 years she decided to pursue her true passion – painting. She has been painting professionally now for five years. She teaches acrylic painting lessons and enjoys mixed media and abstracts when she isn’t teaching. Classes are held in her home as well as at Michael’s in Avon. Diagnosed with epilepsy in 2009, Melissa suffered multiple seizures over a 3 year period. Unemployed and depressed she began painting on a regular basis in June of 2012. She now runs a successful in-home art studio and is seizure free! Painting has been a true blessing and Melissa feels that it actually saved her life! When she’s not teaching a class Melissa really enjoys making Abstract art. She works with many different mediums and likes to use found or repurposed objects in her pieces. These objects are used for adding texture or sometimes as the canvas. Sometimes, the story behind the objects or the piece itself makes the art even more enjoyable. Landon Caldwell

Literary Arts; Installation

Landon Caldwell is a composer and multi-disciplinary artist in Indianapolis whose work examines environment, family, & class through the language of intuition and other hidden layers of reality. Through sound, words, color and other materials, his work creates environments that redirect attention to the present and open new realities through the minutiae of the everyday. Since 2016 he has co-operated Medium Sound, producing a number of the label’s releases. From 2017 to 2020 he was a co-owner/operator of A-Space, a community-focused audio workspace. He has toured in the United States, Canada, and Europe and is regularly engaged with artists and musicians across the Midwest and beyond. His collaborative work expands into multi-disciplinary fields, working with film, visual arts, sculpture, poetry, dance, and more.

Doug Calisch

Visual Arts: Photography, Sculpture

Teacher and artist Doug Calisch, has recently completed his twenty-ninth year of teaching at Wabash College. He received his M.F.A. in sculpture from the University of Minnesota in 1979 and his B.F.A. in 1976 from the University of Illinois. He regularly teaches 3-D Design Foundations and all levels of sculpture, ceramics and photography. In recent summers Doug has traveled to the American Southwest with student photographers teaching nomadic courses in black/white photography. Other field experiences have taken him to the Ecuadorian Rain Forest where he has taught Photography and “Field Observation,” and to Mexico to teach Sculpture and Environmental Awareness. In 2004, Doug received the McClain-McTurnan-Arnold Excellence in Teaching Award As a professional artist, Doug continues to create public commissions and both sculpture and photographs for exhibition. He exhibits his work throughout the country and has over 25 solo exhibitions since 1990. His work can be found in over 50 public and private collections. Noted public commissions include, an installation for Purdue University, a work for Ball Memorial Hospital in Muncie Indiana, and an outdoor sculpture for the city of Osaka, Japan.

Larry Calland

Performing Arts: Music

The Larry Michael Jazz Ensemble has a diverse blend of music, with a musical bank of approximately 300 songs, consisting of original & classical compositions and covers, which blanket the gambit of musical styles. The band performs for an array of events such as: Indy Jazz Fest, an amazing event held in downtown Indianapolis, Ameritech’s Animals And All That Jazz, a summer music series and Zoobilation, both at the Indianapolis Zoo. CJ has been featured on Fox 59 Television Morning News Show, WTHR, NBC affiliate and WTBU Butler University Public Television, on more than one occasion.

Araceli (Ardee) Camara

Visual Arts: Painting

Artist Bio Araceli (Ardee) Camara Born in Mexico City, Ardee was inspired by the folk art her birthplace. As a child she visited the University of Mexico City and other locations with her grandfather to see the paintings of Diego Rivera and many others. Before moving to Indianapolis, Los Angeles was her home for many years and there she found inspiration through the Southern California landscape, light and beauty. She atteded the McGroarty Art Center and Brentwood School of Fine Art in California. Her art is always in a state of development, creating paintings with movement and bright colors reminiscent of her heritage and travels. Ardee is now retired, continues to travel and lives in the historical downtown area of Indianapolis, Indiana.

I moved to Indianapolis from the Evansville, IN area in 1990. I have been a freelance fine artist and photographer for over 40 years. I am a certified graphic designer. I work in oils, acrylics, watercolors, pastels and collage as well as photography and digital medial. I specialize in portraiture, both human and animal. I love doing all forms of artwork. I was the photographer for The Repertory People of Evansville, a theatre group as well as for the Vets Center of Evansville. I was the Arts Chairman of the Vets Festival ’88 held in Evansville that year. I began selling my work in high school, many long years ago. I reside on the near Eastside with my son and our 2 cats.

Chase Cannon

Hailing from Indianapolis, Indiana, I moved to France in 2016 and started taking classes at Parsons The New School in Paris. While studying there, I had the opportunity to perform in my professor’s performance art piece at the Nuit Blanche art festival. I returned to Indiana in December of 2017 and focussed on gaining experience and participating in exhibitions. From July-August, 2018, I had a five week long Artist Residency in New Orleans, Louisiana. It resulted in a solo show, for which I examined the prostitutes of the red light district during the birth of Jazz.

Kevin James Caraher

Performing Arts: Actor/Actress

Kevin enjoys acting, directing and producing, and specializes in character parts in comedies, dramas, musicals, etc. He also has a background in television production. Has performed at various locations including Indianapolis Civic Theatre, Theatre on the Square, Phoenix Theatre, and Edyvean Repertory Theatre. Kevin has written, produced and acted in his one man show RFK Remembered at both The Indiana Historical Society and at Marian College in the Peine Arena Theatre.

Rodrigo Cardoso

Rodrigo Cardoso was born in Portugal and lived most of his life amongst tropical cultures. He’s experienced the African spirit in Angola and South Africa where he lived for a total of 5 years. His most recent years have been amongst the colors and sounds of the Amazon. Rodrigo has always been fascinated by indigenous cultures and he shows it through his work!

Stephanie Carignan

I have been an artist all of my life. As an active painter, since 2007, in the Indianapolis area, I love pulling inspiration from landscapes and cityscapes. Texture is my passion. I work primarily with a pallet knife using acrylic or oil paints on canvas. I have a Bachelor of Fine Arts from Ball State University, which is where I fell in love with painting all over again. Studying other artists and growing in my profession, are important to me. The landscapes around me, near and far inspire me. My love for color trends and texture really show through in my work. My style is called Impasto, meaning “thick paint”. I view myself as an Impressionist artist. I first began painting in a “swatch-like” pattern from studying the works of Paul Cezanne during my years in college. And when I paint, everything is quiet and I escape to a place I love. It truly is my calling.

I believe I am inspired to be creative in mixed media artwork as well as dance in an ‘outsider-style’ format. The creative impulse I receive and the images of what to draw/perform as well as how to do the art come to me organically but most often when I am listening to music and around safe and artistically like-minded people. The majority of what I am influenced to draw is manga-based but I am also activated by the environment around me and the images I see in it. What I do can be considered a sort of performance art because it is most often located randomly and the artistic flow I receive is spontaneous.

Currently working on a commissioned painting for RenMin University in Beijing, China. Currently working on commission of Dean’s portrait for the Indiana University’s Robert H. McKinney school of Law I paint in both oils and watercolors. My style is very detailed as I enjoy capturing the small but important nuances that give the painting its ‘soul’. I prefer images that make you smile and are pleasant to view every day.

Phyllicia Carr

Artist of Color; Black/African American; Ethnic Art; Multi Arts; Portrait

Phyllicia Carr is a multidisciplinary artist from Indianapolis, IN and is known for expressing herself through visual art, graphic design, and photography. Her colorful figurative portraits are inspired from vivid dreams, dialogue, research, and deep introspective revelation. Her work encompasses realism and surrealism mixed with abstract elements while highlighting her subjects with nature. Phyllicia uses her intuition as a guide to explore and communicate the importance of empowerment, love, beauty, vulnerability, and healing for the African American community. She received her B.A. in Communication from North Carolina A&T State University. Her work has been featured in cities across the United States in Atlanta, Indianapolis, and Los Angeles. Her recent work was exhibited at Indy’s Meet The Artist, WACO Theater Center’s Wearable Art Gala founded by Richard Lawson & Tina Knowles Lawson, and was a top 4 finalist in the Finishline x Puma sponsored shoe design competition powered by Pattern Magazine and Martk’d.

Donna Carr Roberts

Donna has been Artist in Residence at the Slane College of Communications and Fine Art, Bradley University. An award-winning artist living in Indianapolis, Indiana and Scottsdale, Arizona. Donna’s work includes life portraits and still life images. She works in Oils, Watercolors and Charcoal. A Classically-Trained Artist, Donna regularly works with some of the nations best artists developing new techniques and perfecting her style keeping her work fresh. Her NFL Jeff Saturday piece exhibited in the 2012 Super Bowl Art Exhibit. Her 2014 Olympic Artwork was recognized by Russia’s leading sports magazine. Her commissioned piece “Lady Justice” is on permanent display in Beijing, China. Donna is a member of Portrait Society of America, Oil Painters of America, National Watercolor Society, Scottsdale Artists League, SCBWI, and a Member with Distinction with American Women Artists. A full exhibit of Donna’s Olympic Artwork was shown at the Indiana University and National Art Museum of Sport/ Indianapolis 2015 Previously a Board Member of The Illinois Arts Commission.

Bernie Carreño's work is primarily accomplished through fabricated or cast metals. He uses industrial materials to ensure reduction of the subject to pure form is fundamental to the work. Complex details are stripped away, reducing the subject to clean lines. He believes form is an effective tool to communicate complex ideas clearly and with strength.Bernie Carreño received his B.F.A. and M.F.A. in Sculpture from the University of Wisconsin – Milwaukee. His pieces can be found in collections and galleries throughout the United States and Canada.

The secrets to success are understood by the way we interact with our dreams and imaginations. Dreams are visions of our thoughts and idea on how we believe we can make a difference in the world. Creative thoughts, expressions, and emotions are combined with different styles and elements to create a better sense of understanding on art in the world. I was born and raised in Indianapolis, IN. I believed that through my art I could change the way people understand the perception of art. My art speaks conversations through emotions and feelings which gives viewers a better sense of understanding based on how the art relates to themselves. I have displayed work throughout the country and around my community in various places such as local Starbucks, bars, the arts garden, IUPUI Cultured Art Gallery and different Libraries around Indianapolis. My work has also been purchased and added into the collection of the Indiana State Museum. With the ambitions on the understanding how photography and graphic design relates to fine art, I attended the Art Institute of Indianapolis and graduated with a BS in graphic design. Outside of the arts, I contributes and gives back to my community by participating in cancer walls, coaching kid on the art of bowling and the art of painting. I also mentor teenagers and teach leadership skills at local YMCA’s.

Brandt Carter

Brandt Carter is coming back to her street-art roots. Beginning in the late 70’s thru the 90’s, art fairs and galleries were the outlets for her animal and farm works from silverpoints to inks and acrylics. Now years later, she is coming back to paint her animals featuring dog and cat portraits to raise money for the new regional facility for Canine Companions for Independence, a national service dog program where they breed, train, and place dogs for free for people with disabilities other than blindness. Brandt works from photos and captures the personality and light of your companion.

“Private Collection Photography is a complete departure from my black and white portrait work. First of all, it is executed in color. But not just the color I see through the lens of the camera; during the printing – which I do myself – I emphasize the color of emotion that the image evokes. It is fine art photography that interprets a “passion.” It originated with my own passion for my familial homeland, Italy. From there, I began exploring the souls of flowers. I’ve also focused on the essence of Americana in another collection, and one that captures the experience of beaches. Each is now featured as its own limited edition collection. I’ve been working with ceramics for over 20 years. Over these 20+ years, I’ve grown an appreciation for clay’s ability to deeply connect with its end users. There is something special about holding a handmade mug that industrially manufactured mugs simply cannot compete with. I akin handmade mugs to being able to shake the creator’s hand every day (literally). This connection to the creator spans time and space, creating a unique opportunity to get to know the maker on a personal level. I hope my audience can take this connection away from my work and to those that have, I am forever grateful for the opportunity to connect with you.
