  • India Hines
    India Hines
Artist of Color; Black/African American; Multiracial; Native Hawaiian/Pacific Islander; Visual Arts: Mixed Media, Painting; Watercolor
India Hines is a painter who juxtaposes elements of intuitive painting and imagination to visually narrate non-physical spiritual and subconscious states. These presentations of images are directly influenced by her unique experiences as a young adult navigating her personal journey of growth and healing, along with the ever-present pressure to “keep it pushing”.
  • Lori Leaumont
    Lori Leaumont
Multiracial; Visual Arts: Ceramics, Illustration, Painting, Sculpture, Visual Arts Instructor, Works on paper
Lori Leaumont is a graduate of the Herron School of Art and Design in Indianapolis, IN, with a BFA in Ceramics. She was born and raised in New Orleans, LA, and while she loves living in Indianapolis, she is still very influenced by the unique culture of the city she grew up in (especially the food!) She works primarily in porcelain, both on and off the potter’s wheel, but her background in painting, and her love of comics and illustration have inspired her to combine the two. During COVID, she has focused on digital illustration using an iPad and Procreate to continue working and processing ideas from home. Her work has been shown in juried group shows both locally and nationally, and she currently teaches freelance workshops for children and adults, as well as creates work in her studio at home. Her influences include her hometown, fairytales and folklore,  Japanese anime and pop culture, internet and nerd culture, as well as ceramic artists such as Ayumi Horie, Molly Hatch, and Jason Walker. She loves creating objects that can be loved and used every day, and that also tell a story. She hopes to convert everyone to her addiction to handmade ceramics, and firmly believes that once you drink your morning beverage out of a handmade mug, you’ll never want to use anything else. She also loves teaching both adults and children how to play in the mud again, which she thinks is equally addictive.
  • Laura Marenco
    Laura Marenco
Artist of Color; Hispanic/Latino/a/x; Multiracial; Visual Arts: Mixed Media, Painting
Hello, my name is Laura Marenco. I was born in El Salvador and moved the United States in my mid 20s. I began my painting career using oils under the guidance of Salvadorian Painter Armando Solis. After moving to the US, I was primarily focused on completing my college education. I graduated with a Bachelors Degree in Psychology from Purdue then moved to Indianapolis to pursue a job in social services. Painting took a back seat in my life in Indianapolis. I had started a new career, I met my husband, and then had a son, Diego, who is now 13 years old. A year after giving birth, I decided to start a business in the fitness industry.  I had very little time to do anything besides family activities in addition to challenges of trying to break into a very competitive market. Now, 20 years later, after life has settled down some, I was in the process of remodeling my home and was searching for new art work. That search inspired me to ask the question, “why not paint my own???” So, here we are a few months later and I find myself in love again with art. I have chosen acrylics as my medium this time around and love the results. I had forgotten how important painting really is in my life and how much I enjoy it.  I promise not to quit ever again!
  • Rachel Meiser
    Rachel Meiser
Artist of Color; Multiracial; Visual Arts: Crafts, Functional and/or Decorative, Graphic Arts, Illustration, Media and Visual Communications, Photography; Fashion Design
My unique perspective comes from being brought up in both rural and urban environments, as well as, being surrounded by diverse people all along the way. I first learned sewing and handcrafts from shadowing my grandmother, then honed my skills by earning a BA in Fashion Design from Kent State University. After supplemental coursework in Visual Communication in 2017, I branched out into the digital media world and also began the journey to my MBA that same year. Now, with my MBA in hand, I am working towards building my brand in a more purposeful and long-lasting way. From custom apparel and costume designs for individuals and troupes alike to graphic design services for businesses large and small, I enjoy the variety and fun that all freelance projects bring.
  • mary mindiola
    mary mindiola
Hispanic/Latino/a/x; Multiracial; Visual Arts: Crafts, Mixed Media, Painting, Portrait, Works on paper; @marymindiolaart
Mary was born in Caracas, Venezuela. She is the fourth daughter of a marriage between an US citizen and a Venezuelan national. In 2000, Mary moved to Indianapolis IN., searching for broader artistic opportunities. She started accepting commissioned work by painting pet portraits. While working on commissioned pieces Mary developed an interest and liking for pet portraits. Looking to transform her work into something more meaningful and different, Mary started to use pieces of paper from magazines left behind by her daughter. The desire to use and recycle materials she had at hand worked perfectly and a new medium turned into a passion. This technique uses only glue, scissors, and lots and lots of magazines. No paint is involved here. This method has also greatly sparked her interest into recycled art work, conservation, and humankind effect on nature. Exhibitions include Venezuelan ArtFair in NYC JUNE 2021,  winner of people choice award for the Indy High Art Billboard Project 2022, and selected as one of 5 artist for  the Indy 500 2022 artist pieces.
  • Caroline Pyle
    Caroline Pyle
Artist of Color; Black/African American; Multiracial; Native American/Indigenous; Visual Arts: Painting
Each life has a story to tell.  Painting has become the voice to share my story.  The experience of a near fatal car accident had a transforming effect on me.  Though I worked diligently in the field of public health prior to my accident, I now see clearly the connection between creativity and personal health.  Consequently, I have cycled back to my artistic roots – embracing my passion for creativity in a more committed way.  Using courage and determination as tools to pull myself through this catastrophic event, I now use painting as a positive vehicle for growth and development, while simultaneously communicating a sense of hope to the broader community.
