Me, Myself, and I

An artist’s most available subject is staring right back at them when they look in the mirror. Throughout history, artists have used the image of themselves as a convenient exercise to build upon their skills. They have used portraits of themselves as cameos in larger multifigure compositions. Additionally, they have used the genre to showcase their technical abilities and to express their sense of self in many diverse ways: realistically, stylistically, emotionally, metaphorically, etc. In this show of self portraits from Indiana artists, the viewer will delight in pieces resulting from the practice and honing of skills to completely realized and sincere work.
