Vocal Arts Institute 2020

The Indianapolis Opera is proud to present the Vocal Arts Institute, a program for students entering grade 9 through recent high school graduates exploring the art of solo performance through classical repertoire, folksong, and musical theater. ​ The Vocal Arts Institute is the perfect opportunity for high school students of all levels to refine their vocal skills in preparation for college. Daily classes cover a range of topics including movement and choreography, acting, private vocal instruction, auditioning, vocal health, International Phonetic Alphabet, memorization techniques, and college preparation. Students will give four public performances: this includes two solo recitals accompanied by Echoing Air baroque instrumental ensemble and two performances of a fully staged review-style show with costumes, props, choreography, lights, and staging. The performance venues will include the Basile Opera Center, Eskenazi Hospital, and a senior living center in the Indianapolis community.
