My name is Cierra Johnson and I am an artist. I advocate for whole humanity through visual representation. I have been drawing all my life. I was first exposed to fine arts through the public school system in Indianapolis. My personal practice is in painting & illustration. I love simple, effective design and bring a clean, tactile aesthetic to my work that emphasizes the human element.

About My Work:

My work is about identity and the power it has to shape our lives. It seeks to examine how we define ourselves, how we relate to each other individually and how we interact with our community and environment.

Representation matters. I strive to make work that uplifts and exalts black and brown people in all of their humanity. We should be visualized with love, joy & beauty. We need images that show us in all our  glory and possibility. If you can see it, you can be it.

Art allows people to see themselves in a new light. My work is a way to imagine yourself differently and experience new perspectives; ideally it leads the audience to act with a growing sense of community and compassion.
