My life is a very diverse book of many pages. For this, we shall begin, when my Artistic Me, began. In Dec of 2009 I became a victim of a violent crime. I had to undergo numerous surgeries, one of which was to save fingers on both hands. After months of therapy and searching for ways to get me to want to use my hands properly, I was given a camera. A light turned on in my soul. I started seeing and noticing things I never took the time to see before. Through all the hardships I have endured, the one blessing I hold onto is the chance to meet all the great and amazing clients, artists and supporters I have gotten to meet. Before, had I died, I would have been thought of as a good father, productive member of society and so on. Now, i get to help people leave their mark, their legacy, upon the World through my photography. Samantha Lyn Aasen

Samantha Lyn Aasen is an artist reacquainting herself to the Midwest. Born in Indianapolis, she spent several years in the Southwest before returning to her home to Indiana. Her work in heavily influenced on her experience in growing up a young girl in suburbia. She questions the transition between girlhood and womanhood. Often Aasen’s work is manifested in photographs, but has also included performances, installations, videos, and objects. Her inspiration comes from reality television, fashion dolls, blogs, and pop culture. Samantha Lyn Aasen received her BFA in Photography from the Herron School of Art and Design at IUPUI and her MFA with an emphasis in Intermedia from Arizona State University. Her work has been exhibited across the United States in Maryland, Indiana, Arizona, Illinois, and recently internationally in London.

Shelby Alexander

Shelby graduated from the University of Notre Dame where she studied studio art. She also received a certificate in fashion design from Pratt Institute in NYC and participated in a studio residency program at the South Bend Museum of Art. Jonathan Angulo

Artist of Color; Hispanic/Latino/a/x; Visual Arts: Mixed Media, Painting

Jonathan Angulo was born in Izucar De Matamoros, Puebla, Mexico on December 17, 1988. Immigrated to the United States, from Los Ángeles, New York to now based out of Indianapolis Indiana. Has always had an interest in the arts since a child, being exposed to graffiti and other forms of art. Graduated from Herron School of Art and Design. Working with a mix of mediums mainly oil and spray paint. Jonathan has been influenced greatly by his Mexican heritage as well as from other cultures. Graffiti plays a big role in his work as well. He has shown work at the Big Car Service Center show Called Herencia, as a part of group shows and worked on murals in Indianapolis. Jonathan’s focus has been the idea of death through Dia de Los Muertos. Death not not being something that is sad but something that is celebrated and just another phase of life. Experiences, meeting people and cultures along with own cultural background influences provide him with a rich set of references and imagery that he uses to create his work. Experiences of meeting people and learning about different cultures have provided him with new perspectives and insights that he can incorporate into his work.

Gretchen 'Copper' Banning

My artist name is Copper. I chose this name only because I was using it as an 'alias' when I was hosting goth parties in the 90s. That is when I started drawing and painting. I signed those works Copper and so I have kept it even though it confuses people. I am also a DJ and go by the name Copper Top, which is another story for another day. I am not a trained artist. My degree was in political science and history. I never even considered art until one day I decided in the 1990s I decided to draw a picture and showed it to my boyfriend. He said to 'give it up'. I hate those words so I kept going anyway. I continued drawing and eventually I moved into collage and painting. By the late 90s I was producing works which incorporated many styles and mediums. I had several small shows in the city in the early 2000's including The Bungalow in Broad Ripple and many coffee shops in the city. In 2002 I decided to leave behind my art to pursuing DJing as my main creative outlet. I decided that someday, when I didn't want to DJ as much, I would come back to my art. I DJ'd all over the country and the world between 2002 and 2012. I released 6 licensed CDs which were distributed globally. All of this was done on small Indie labels here and in Germany. When I spin now from time to time I play a mix of industrial, psy trance, dark house, and techno. In January 2012 I began to become serious about art again. I brought to it a new confidence in making my own rules. I was also deeply affected by 'The Occupy Movement'. I was an activist in my college days and worked on many humanitarian causes. I studied political economics and have always leaned to the left, although my current convictions have evolved since those days. I began to marry my concern for global political and environmental crises to my expression through art. I recently published a piece of prose in the Canadian art publication 'Adbusters' and strongly support everything that periodical hopes to accomplish for a better global future. I also very much enjoy creating 'decorative art'. I do this to distract from my gloomy side. I love vintage kitsch and moreover mxing it with other surreal 'childish' decorative objects. I love making diorama. I love spanish and latino style art and am strongly influenced by it. I also enjoy completely remaking large objects like furniture. I have dabbled in painting, drawing, photography, collage, assemblage, sculpture. I hate making anything more than once. I constantly am looking for some new idea to bring to my art.

Jessica Branstetter

Jessica Branstetter is a senior at Herron School of Art and Design in Indianapolis, Indiana. She is currently working out of Detroit, Michigan and Indianapolis, Indiana documenting the places and people that she meets along the way. Throughout her practice as a photographer, Jessica Branstetter’s work has explored the lives of others through capturing the qualities that form a culture, person, or city. Her work tells a visual story of the people she meets, subjects and events that are important to her, and introspective investigations that form visual diaries of her life. Influenced by subcultures and punk rock and roll, she also photographs musicians and the underground culture that accompanies it. Justin Brown is a multidiscipline contemporary artist and curator. He is a native Hoosier and Cathedral graduate. Justin was an original founder and curator of Future Friends Holographic Magic Club in Fountain Square, IN. He is the founder and executive director of Hoy Polloy Art Gallery at 3125 E. 10th St, Indianapolis, IN. Justin was also the curator and director of Re:Public; a partnership between Indianapolis Contemporary and Hoy Polloy, which closed in April 2020 with the closing of Indianapolis. His visual work focuses primarily on federal and private surveillance data analytics, public and private scientific institutional research, federal and municipal law enforcement investigations, congressional investigation committees, historical documentarian texts, forced perspective, cognitive dissonance, and color theory.

What is Quixotic Artistry? It is first and foremost, my brand. It’s whimsy, it’s being able to look failure directly in the eye, and say “f*&# off”, and turn it into success. It’s my past heartbreak, and my feelings of insecurity. Ironically, it is my suit of armour, and my confidence. It is Assemblage, fashion design, makeup artistry, and graphics. It is choreography, it is design. It’s perfect balance. It is the rebirth of my failed attempts at becoming a fashion designer, yet is the new life of a new approach. It is the phoenix, that is rising from the ashes of what I thought to be the end of a journey. Alas, my journey is not over. What is Quixotic | Artistry ? It is whatever that I want it to be, and will be everything that I quixotically dream it to be.

Disabled Indiana author and artist Alys Caviness-Gober began exhibiting and selling artwork in 2012; prior to that, she taught Anthropology at Ball State University. Alys left a PhD program (Applied Linguistics) due to health issues. She is a Juried Artist Member in the Hamilton County Artists’ Association (painting and photography categories), where she served on the Board for many years in various officer positions. Alys founded Logan Street Sanctuary, Inc. (LSS), a 501(c)(3) not-for-profit music, arts, and education venue located in the heart of Noblesville, Indiana, and serves as the LSS Board Secretary. Alys’ paintings, photographs, and poetry have received national and international recognition.

Anne Cleary

Anne Cleary is a native Hoosier living in the Indianapolis area. She grew up out in the Zionsville countryside. Her childhood spent roaming the fields, creek and woods inform her work to this day. Much of her abstract work is based upon nature, landscapes and the sky, often referring to the mysterious connection human beings have with the natural world. She studied art, English, and vocal music in her undergraduate years, going on to pursue graduate work in vocal performance (Opera). Music is an integral part of her life, and a certain musicality can be seen in some of her painter’s language- brushstrokes may sometimes conotate musical notation, layers of markings and glazes- perhaps a visual chord. She is currently working heavily in textiles- specifically painted and dyed silks and natural fibers for collage, wall hangings and fashion. She works out of her home studio in the top of a barn on the North side of Indianapolis, and is visited often by appointment. I was born in Miami, Florida but grew up in Indianapolis, primarily in Broad Ripple. Ever since I was a child I was obsessed with drawing. I was involved in the arts through out my time at Broad Ripple High School, studying AP Visual Art. I got my first bit of experience in the real world when in my sophmore year I helped create the mural outside Einstein’s Bagels in Broad Ripple. I have always loved illustrating unique and mysterious imagery, creating a concept hidden within the subject matter. After high school I went to Ivy Tech Community College and recieved an Associates Degree in Fine Arts and then transferred to Savannah College of Art and Design where I graduated with a B.F.A. in Illustration/Communication Arts. My illustration work can be applicable to the graphic design, editorial, advertising, and book market place.

I am an artist, a yoga teacher, and a student. I came to art as a way to express myself, enter a flow state, and heal. I teach yoga for the same reasons. I provide a space for my students to heal themselves and get into that flow state, us artists love. In my work I love to explore different levels of consciousness or reality, emotions, and my perspective on life. I enjoy creating works around the concepts behind life, energy, the soul, and my life experiences (present and past). Oil is the medium I love but I also enjoy ceramics. I love to write about my life in my blog and someday hope to take my writing more professionally, as well as my artist career.

Destiny Cooper was born in Indianapolis, Indiana in 1996. She is currently studying at Herron School of Art and Design to obtain her Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in Ceramics with a minor in Art History. Her studio practice includes pottery and functional ware with some sculptural work. Cooper’s three-dimensional ceramic works focus on ego death, psychedelia, sacred geometry, and environmental issues. She is the owner of Destiny Cooper Studio and Destiny Cooper Photography. She also owns Destiny Cooper Studio and deshtiny on Etsy. She attends music festivals and concerts like Hyperion to run a booth selling her fine art and Etsy work.

A native of Alaska, as a youth D. Del Reverda-Jennings resided in Chicago, Illinois., and was educated in parochial academy institutions. From that timeline, the Indianapolis-based interdisciplinary artist has since traveled a creative and an artistic journey influenced by a kaleidoscope of cultural nuance. Visually D. Del Reverda-Jennings, is known for producing a broad range of work inclusive of sculpture, mixed media, installation, painting, and interdisciplinary roles in the artworld as an award-winning published journalist, arts editor, author and poet. She is the Creator, Founder and Independent Curator of “FLAVA FRESH ! ” an Indianapolis based, Annual Juried, Multiple Exhibition Presentation Series of Contemporary Art. The multicultural series has been an acclaimed visual arts showcase for over twenty-three years, with the seven month long consecutive event venue having received a number of honors and awards. The versatile arts practitioner also works as an administrator, facilitator and free-lances in a number of arts disciplines throughout the Midwest and beyond. As a journalist, regional arts editor and author Del Reverda-Jennings has for over two decades researched, sought out and cultivated aspiring beginners, newly-discovered, emergent and early-career artists who reside and work in Indiana as well as regionally to expose their creativity through writing, photographic documentation and by exhibiting their work in professional commercial arts venues, exposing their creative life stories, events and achievements in Midwestern regional, national and international print and online media. D. Del Reverda-Jennings, has been involved long-term in grass roots arts efforts, the non-profit sector and community service in Indianapolis and is the founder of several groups and organizations. The invested activist and cultural worker is a regional arts grant panelist, adjudicator, a noted lecturer and is currently an Artist Ambassador for the Central Indiana Community Foundation (CICF), and an Equity Ambassador for the Arts Council of Indianapolis. She is widely known for having acquired a well-earned reputation as being driven and making great things happen for underrepresented and/or marginalized artists and continues to be a vital force in the exhibition and scholarship of twenty-first century art.

Just a young artist trying all the things. Born and raised in Pine Bluff, Arkansas. I went to Hendrix College and graduated in May 2020 with my art degree. I moved to Indianapolis in February 2020. The ladies who own the business have been incredibly helpful to me by hosting my art in their shop, as well as, helping me find my way around Indy and make it a home.

My art is a visual expression of the emotions and issues reflective of life in relation to music and art. It is full of graphic responses that have been directly inspired through music. Concentrating on the figure and portrait, I make expressive compositions with a variety of images collaged into a complete illustrative thought. Ideas and images manifest themselves through a variety of mediums and materials. My intent is to engage the viewer and cause him/her to connect with aspects of the piece. Sometimes the message is obvious, but when looking again viewers can find a variety of things in the work in which they connect. I create with the purpose of always providing my audience with more than the initial perception.

My passion for working with metal and mechanical objects has been essential in the evolution of my art. It provides me an avenue to express myself in a way that brings new life to materials such as typewriters, adding machines and old computers – technology that would normally end up in a landfill. My mission is to create dialogue and help find creative, environmentally sound ways of re-purposing e-waste. What is the story behind your Luxury Series? For Gabriel Dishaw, it’s always been about the journey. For him, the creative process starts with disassembling items and then reimaging them as new objects. Through his work, he is also able to express his eagerness to inspire dialogue on reducing waste and participate in creative solutions for utilizing materials that would often be discarded after its intended use and repurposes them so others can find enjoyment. His Luxury Series builds upon this philosophy. With each piece, Gabriel has taken characters and universes from his childhood as well as his passion for science fiction and elevated them from their original meanings and stories by using textiles from luxurious brands. Whether based on a toy he grew up with or a film he’s rewatched countless times, each piece reflects a moment in time through a modern, fashionable twist.
