Samantha Lyn Aasen is an artist reacquainting herself to the Midwest. Born in Indianapolis, she spent several years in the Southwest before returning to her home to Indiana. Her work in heavily influenced on her experience in growing up a young girl in suburbia. She questions the transition between girlhood and womanhood. Often Aasen’s work is manifested in photographs, but has also included performances, installations, videos, and objects. Her inspiration comes from reality television, fashion dolls, blogs, and pop culture. Samantha Lyn Aasen received her BFA in Photography from the Herron School of Art and Design at IUPUI and her MFA with an emphasis in Intermedia from Arizona State University. Her work has been exhibited across the United States in Maryland, Indiana, Arizona, Illinois, and recently internationally in London.

After a career in Marketing, Advertising and now Information Technology, Teresa is finally devoting her spare time to art with plans to eventually transition to full time “arting”. Attending Herron School of Art 28 years ago was the highlight of her life but two daughters, who are the joys of her life, and her corporate career beckoned. With a recent move from the suburbs to Emerson Heights, her friendships with artists greatly expanded. The newly formed group, the Eastside Art Collective, has provided both inspiration and support to encourage Teresa to finally get back to creating art. Squeezing art into your evenings and weekends is no small feat. Now with her own studio at 201 Studios in Indianapolis, she is working more and more.

Dale Bernstein

Dale Bernstein is an experienced photographer specializing in commercial photography and the historic Wet Plate Collodion process. Throughout his early days he has worked for some of the most influential photographers in modern history including Irving Penn, Richard Avedon, Horst P. Horst, and others. Needless to say the knowledge Dale gained from working with these incredible artists has greatly influenced his own work. Dale is also known to be one of the leaders in the Wet Plate Collodion process. A historic photographic process dating back to the 1850’s. Now on the rise again by younger photographers, Dale has proven his technique having worked with the process since the 1990s.

Keith Blanton

Keith Monroe Blanton, born in 1951 to a farming family whose roots can be found in their 1832 homestead farm located on the northeast side of Indianapolis. My earliest memories are of the beautiful people and images associated with the family farms. Beginning with the ability to hold a pencil, I have always sketched and painted the beauty that God has placed around me. It is where I find my peace and my calling. Like most people, my interests over the years have been divided. I received my education in Engineering from Purdue University. The skills that I possess in Art are gifts from God. I have had no formal educational training in Art. My early and middle adult years were spent on the pursuit of an engineering career in the design and construction supervision of roads and bridges throughout Indiana. But, my love has always been in the art of oil painting. To capture on canvas the moment in time, the sparkle in the eye, and yes the very spirit and soul of the person, object, or scene that I am painting. I have always loved the work and passion found in the paintings of the old masters. My years of work as an engineer has aided in the further development of an eye for finite details and an absolute desire to create an heirloom that will be loved and will be cherished for generations. The paintings of Keith Blanton have been on display at Mayor Ballard’s office, the Mayor of Indianapolis and have been at galleries in Indianapolis, Zionsville, Fishers, Greenwood, South Bend, Goshen, and Plymouth, all in Indiana. Keith has also received awards at shows and exhibits throughout Indiana; the following are a list of a few: The Indiana State Fair: over the past 30 years, numerous ribbons have been received ranging from “Third Place” to “Honorable Mention” DeFries Gardens: In the 2010 Garden Art Show received the following two awards: “Best of Show” and “Honorable Mention” Heartland Regional Art Exhibition in 2009 received the “Popular Choice Award” Spencer Gallery, 2012 NIA Exhibit, received the “Judges Award”

Justin Brown is a multidiscipline contemporary artist and curator. He is a native Hoosier and Cathedral graduate. Justin was an original founder and curator of Future Friends Holographic Magic Club in Fountain Square, IN. He is the founder and executive director of Hoy Polloy Art Gallery at 3125 E. 10th St, Indianapolis, IN. Justin was also the curator and director of Re:Public; a partnership between Indianapolis Contemporary and Hoy Polloy, which closed in April 2020 with the closing of Indianapolis. His visual work focuses primarily on federal and private surveillance data analytics, public and private scientific institutional research, federal and municipal law enforcement investigations, congressional investigation committees, historical documentarian texts, forced perspective, cognitive dissonance, and color theory.

Marie Broyer

Broyer’s art career began in a formalized elementary education art program in Evansville, IN. In addition, throughout her early learning and primary education, Marie was offered participation in specialty art programs within the public-school systems and the local community. Nearing the end of high school, she chose to finish her curriculum at the inaugural charter “Signature School.” Furthermore, with the availability of this new artistic program, she focused her studies on contemporary art and editorial content. Most of all, Broyer won numerous awards for editorial illustration and content. In addition, was granted the opportunity as a high school student to participate in the juried Oakland City College (now Oakland City University) Art Exhibit. Thus, she participated in her first exhibit and at the age of seventeen and awarded a college level honorable mention. During this time, The University of Southern Indiana (USI) School of Liberal Arts Board of Directors selected (Stonestreet) Broyer as a recipient for a full liberal arts scholarship. While at USI, she earned her Bachelor of Science degree in Liberal Arts majoring in Advertising and Public Relations and focused on fine arts and marketing. Then, she studied under the artist in residence, Ms. Judy Chicago, in New Harmony, IN and traveled the country. Primarily, she studied the artists of the modern and impressionistic movement. Most of all, Broyer found herself inspired by the Impressionist and Fauvist movements. “In essence the movement is a realist perspective through the eyes of the artist, not a photograph.” Furthermore, she seized those concepts and built her own style through creating layers of texture, line and color. Now, she applies her formal training through working in commercial art, digital marketing communications and as an educator teaching adult and youth art classes in her country-side studio. In addition, she continues to learn and expand her knowledge base to further enhance the artist community. In conclusion, Marie currently resides in Central Indiana working in the fine art and the marketing communications industry. For over two decades, she continues to grow as a professional fine artist and individual. Broyer’s representation spans regional museums, private shows, public exhibitions and juried fairs. Contributing the donation of time and art to public service initiatives, she adds her flair of unique business initiatives and an artistic perspective to the local community.

I am an artist, a yoga teacher, and a student. I came to art as a way to express myself, enter a flow state, and heal. I teach yoga for the same reasons. I provide a space for my students to heal themselves and get into that flow state, us artists love. In my work I love to explore different levels of consciousness or reality, emotions, and my perspective on life. I enjoy creating works around the concepts behind life, energy, the soul, and my life experiences (present and past). Oil is the medium I love but I also enjoy ceramics. I love to write about my life in my blog and someday hope to take my writing more professionally, as well as my artist career.

David Cunningham

David Cunningham’s compelling realistic paintings have been exhibited in solo and group exhibitions in galleries and museums throughout the United States. In his meticulously crafted oil paintings, he combines traditional 15th century Dutch technique with contemporary ideas about space and composition. Through preliminary drawings, value based underpainting, and multiple thin layers of colors, David creates paintings that celebrate three-dimensional illusion. Professor Cunningham’s current body of work focuses on the beautiful color relationships and amazing juxtaposition of shapes and textures found in stones. The paintings reveal the power, hardness, and permanence of its subject matter creating subtle narratives that resonate with something deep, primitive, and spiritual in all of us. Over the last three years, these paintings have received high praise being exhibited in over a dozen juried and invitational exhibits. Recently, he received best of show in Fort Wayne Museum of Art’s Contemporary Realism Biennial and in the Swope Museum’s Wabash Valley exhibit. His work is found in both public and corporate collections including: St Meinrad Monastery, The University of Evansville, Fifth Third Bank and Vectren Corporation. In addition, his paintings have been shown in Luxe and American Artist Magazine. Currently, his work is being sold through galleries in Indiana and Michigan. David Cunningham was born in Carmel California in 1974 and was raised in Chattanooga, Tennessee. He currently lives with his daughter, Mary, and sons, William and Samson, in Indianapolis, Indiana. In addition to painting, David is a professor of Art at Franklin College where he teaches Painting, Design, Ceramics and Issues in Contemporary Art.

A native of Alaska, as a youth D. Del Reverda-Jennings resided in Chicago, Illinois., and was educated in parochial academy institutions. From that timeline, the Indianapolis-based interdisciplinary artist has since traveled a creative and an artistic journey influenced by a kaleidoscope of cultural nuance. Visually D. Del Reverda-Jennings, is known for producing a broad range of work inclusive of sculpture, mixed media, installation, painting, and interdisciplinary roles in the artworld as an award-winning published journalist, arts editor, author and poet. She is the Creator, Founder and Independent Curator of “FLAVA FRESH ! ” an Indianapolis based, Annual Juried, Multiple Exhibition Presentation Series of Contemporary Art. The multicultural series has been an acclaimed visual arts showcase for over twenty-three years, with the seven month long consecutive event venue having received a number of honors and awards. The versatile arts practitioner also works as an administrator, facilitator and free-lances in a number of arts disciplines throughout the Midwest and beyond. As a journalist, regional arts editor and author Del Reverda-Jennings has for over two decades researched, sought out and cultivated aspiring beginners, newly-discovered, emergent and early-career artists who reside and work in Indiana as well as regionally to expose their creativity through writing, photographic documentation and by exhibiting their work in professional commercial arts venues, exposing their creative life stories, events and achievements in Midwestern regional, national and international print and online media. D. Del Reverda-Jennings, has been involved long-term in grass roots arts efforts, the non-profit sector and community service in Indianapolis and is the founder of several groups and organizations. The invested activist and cultural worker is a regional arts grant panelist, adjudicator, a noted lecturer and is currently an Artist Ambassador for the Central Indiana Community Foundation (CICF), and an Equity Ambassador for the Arts Council of Indianapolis. She is widely known for having acquired a well-earned reputation as being driven and making great things happen for underrepresented and/or marginalized artists and continues to be a vital force in the exhibition and scholarship of twenty-first century art.

Just a young artist trying all the things. Born and raised in Pine Bluff, Arkansas. I went to Hendrix College and graduated in May 2020 with my art degree. I moved to Indianapolis in February 2020. I currently have my art for sale at a local business: Relics Redesigned. You should definitely look them up. The ladies who own the business have been incredibly helpful to me by hosting my art in their shop, as well as, helping me find my way around Indy and make it a home.

I make photographs using a variety of cameras ranging from traditional DSLRs, to more contemporary Mirror-less varieties. I also enjoy infrared photography, and, probably most significantly, create with the iPhone. Through my business, Rad Drew Photography, LLC, which I stared in 2010, I make and sell images, teach photography and “iPhoneography,” and lead educational photo workshops to destinations around the world. On these trips, I guide photographers to extraordinary photo opportunities and teach in the field to support students in making the best images possible given the equipment and conditions. Since 2013 I’ve lead groups to Cuba at least twice each year. Other workshop destinations include the South of France, Tuscany, Cape Cod, Boston’s North Shore, The Palouse, and many destinations in my home state of Indiana and neighboring Ohio. My imagers have received numerous international awards and have made their way into galleries and juried international competitions showing in Los Angeles, San Francisco, Texas, Vermont, New York, Toronto, Collingwood, Seattle, and Melbourne. I’m the author of the fine art books, In Good Light, Images of the Circle City; a collection of images of Indianapolis, and Rural Indiana, A Beauty all its Own, and am a contributor to today’s most comprehensive volume of iPhone instruction, The Art of iPhone Photography: Creating Great Photos and Art on Your iPhone.

I am a self taught artist. My mother was an artist and my father was an artisan. They both had the ability to see something in their mind and make that or design and create something. I have been painting and drawing since I was a child. Always had paper and pencil in my hand. I grew up in the country and come from New York State. Upstate New York, Binghamton, NY. I retired and moved here in 2009. My only son has a restaurant here. Back east I painted and also did soft sculpted face Santa Claus figures. All built from scratch and with real wool beards. Sometimes people would bring their old furs or damaged dress (wedding dress) or an heirloom and I would make a doll or a Santa Claus figure. I belonged to The Cooperative Gallery on State Street in Binghamton, NY and painted cards and had my Santa figures in the Gallery. they are having a show for the founding members at this time and I just shipped a Santa back to them. I worked at administrative and clerical jobs all my adult life and have carpal tunnel. I have had surgery a few years ago. But at this point I am trying to maintain my hands at a healthy pace. And so I do not do those figures any more and spend time making art. I paint watercolors mostly. I like doing cards. But also do some mixed media on canvas. I sketch and work out designs for my cards. I do paintings also and have taken them to Johnson County fair in July. My classification has been non-professional. Thank you. Nancy Evans

Herschel Fall

Born in 1965 in Indianapolis, Herschel is a largely self-taught artist. He developed his techniques and style of painting from a large supply of art books he has collected over the years. Growing up poor and in an abusive family, Herschel used his drawing and painting as a way to escape from the trials that he faced as a youth. Teachers and friends often encouraged him to show his artwork and continue to develop his own techniques. After taking a long break from art after high school, he was encouraged to take up the pen & brush again by his wife. People often ask Herschel what he thinks about when drawing or painting. That is an impossible question to answer for him, as time seems to stand still for him when immersed in his work. Herschel works in many different media including watercolor, oils and acrylics on canvas. Herschel is a wet-on-wet painter as it allows him ample time to make changes and to blend his colors. He is constantly trying to push himself in new directions. Herschel has had his, works published in magazines like Art Scene International & Direct Art magazine and has sold works all over the world in places like Spain and France as well here in the USA.
