Beth Ann Thomas
Graphic Arts; Visual Arts: Graphic Arts, Illustration, Mixed Media, Murals, Painting, Printmaking, Works on paper
Based out of 201 Studios in Indianapolis, Indiana, Thomas is an independent artist dedicated to creating out of her convictions. Her work hinges on weaving together organic language, societal tensions, and human suffering into cerebral works that confront her viewer with strenuous realities. Using multiple mediums to engage her viewer, she focuses on asking hard questions through the implementation of visual languages like texture and color, of symbolic imagery relying upon her viewer’s mental archive, and of the literal cutting and pasting of difficult texts onto arrangements of various ephemera. Creating these gritty confrontations is how she processes her own womanhood, her humanity, and the world around her. The world is full of suffering, and she aims to amplify that in an effort to encourage awareness, conviction, and change.

Art connects me to the world. It nourishes the ebb and flow of intimacy between myself, others, and our shared surroundings. My experience of art exists as a vast web of internalized relationships. I maintain an archive of these visual and conceptual impulses in commercially fabricated file folders. These are the folders I convert into surface grounds for drawing, painting, writing, mark making. My strategy for the creation of marks begins with the practice of counting using tally marks and evolves through improvisation into patterns of camouflage. These, in turn, accumulate into large scale objects and installations made of paper, pencil, twine, lumber. These expressive strategies find their most compelling context when placed in sites dominated by vacancy – abandoned structures, empty lots, wedges of marginal and liminal spaces. These installations cause the work to morph into vibrant place markers found in forgotten sites reinforcing the human labor involved in the utopian intent of exercising hope.

My name is Cass Wilson and it’s wonderful to meet you.
I was born in Phoenix, Arizona and that is where my love for art began. At the ripe age of 4, I experienced my first paint brush while coloring the carpet, the inside of a dryer, and my dads clothing with bright pink nail polish. Little did he know it sparked a mad passion and frenzy for me. Quickly my parents began to stock my childrens desk with crayons, markers, pens, pencils, and all the works.
Life changes as a kid and you are packed up just as compactly as your toys and memories. Our family wandered a lot through my childhood. We lived in Texas, Michigan, and Settled in Indiana. It was in Indiana that I realized that my heart was content and my soul was rested only after creating something. I took three art classes in high school. I took 2d drawing Freshman year. That was a bit of a dud. I wasn’t challenged at all. I was also not allowed to draw things I really liked. To be fair, I learned a lot about value and tone despite my relationship with the dragon lady.
Sophmore year, I took painting 101. This was my lunch period. I also wasn’t challenged but I had the pleasure of loving my teacher and being a huge help to my class by finishing my work quickly and going to help them with feedback or tips.
My final art class was senior year and I took ceramics. INTOXICATING! I wasn’t great at it, but I loved throwing on the wheel.
I went to portfolio days and I remember back then a huge blow to my ego and dreams. Pratt told me I had too much of a style and while my work was great, I wouldn’t be moldable. In retrospect… Pratts feedback pushed me to fight back. Growing up we didn’t have money for college. So being determined, head strong, and unwilling to let go of art; I followed my own dreams.
I am a professional artist who has showcased with RAW, Had first Friday’s in Evansville’s best Coffee shop, Showcased at Studio 6 in Frankfort, and been recognized in Lexington KY for chalkboard portraits at HopCat Craft Beer Bar.
Life is a funny little tide that pulls me to different edges of the world teaching me and allowing me to follow my passion.

I am an Indy-born, corn-fed, Indy-raised artist through and through! I have studied art at both Purdue and Duke Universities under professional artists that have produced exhibitions for the Indy Airport, National Geographic, and other large-scale audiences. For the last 7 years, I’ve done mural work for several Indy communities including Noblesville, Fishers, Vincennes, and Cumberland. In my time spent living in Boston and Los Angeles over the last 5 years, I also developed skills in exotic face and body painting, pottery, and stained glass, adding a unique skillset and aesthetic style to my teacher abilities and artwork.
In 2018, I formed Hue Murals LLC (fully licensed by the state of Indiana). I offer classes and studio time, work on large scale mural projects, travel to festivals and cultural events to share face and body painting, project manage for local art partners, and more.
